To put it mildly, today wasn't my most exciting day at Fine Arts. This morning my sponsor texted me to tell me that today she wouldn't be there when I first arrived, but I could start off the day taking down the display I put up not even a week ago (the event they were for had happened Tuesday night). The display that took me four hours, caused me loads of stress, and actually looked nice. I was maybe a little bitter about this. I reluctantly spent two hours removing staples and sorting the artwork by class once I got there. This was tedious, and sad once the walls were empty, but it felt good to be done.
For the next two hours, I folded programs. One of the piano teachers is having a recital this weekend, and there were about 200 programs that needed to be folded. It was all right because I got to listen to music and have coffee while I worked on it, and it wasn't that difficult.
On May 20, there's a benefit event coming up, and at the event there will be a heads or tails game where people play using lollipops. Today I had to curl red, blue, silver, and gold ribbons and tape them on to the ends of lollipops (way more difficult than it seems) so that they will look nice when people use them in the game. Honestly, I'm awful at curling ribbons, even though it seems like a really easy task. It was kind of pathetic but I did it.
Today wasn't the best, but it could have been a lot worse. At least I didn't have to staple anything. I've come to realize how much work goes into running an organization like Fine Arts. So many little things have to be done (I'm usually the one who does them for my sponsor) and they become so time-consuming. They're not fun, but someone has to do them, and I'm glad I'm able to help out.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
# 1. Post a blog 3 times a week (M, W & F) of at least 200 words. In your blogs you could:
-describe something you learned
-explain something that surprised you
-give an update about stuff you're working on
-explain how you solved a problem
-tell a cool story
Also include images, sounds or video from your project.
# 2. Respond thoughtfully to another blogger's posts on this site. Post 1 of these response-blogs per week (200 or more words each).
Each of you is expected to contribute to this blog--even if you're working with another senior or with a group.
I'm really looking forward to following your project via your postings! Have fun!
